7 Easy Home Remedies for Diarrhea

Diarrhea is also known as loose motions and refers to at least 3 -4 times of liquid or loose bowel movements every day. There are around 7 different types of stools which can be mild or severe diarrhea respectively. According to experts, diarrhea can last for hours and some even days. If loose motions happen for 4 to 4 times in a day, it is termed as mild diarrhea. If it happens 6-8 times, it is moderate diarrhea. Lemongrass

Lemongrass is that tropical grass that is best considered for treating diarrhea. The anti-bacteria properties contained in lemongrass helps in the treatment of diarrhea. Lemongrass can be consumed with tea or simply as any food ingredients. Take around 3 tablespoons of lemongrass in boiling water. Mix it properly and drink it. You can also add some ice cubes to make it iced lemongrass tea. Have only 1 cup of lemongrass tea a day.

Coconut Water

Coconut water is an excellent source of calcium, iron, manganese, and magnesium. It is also a rich source of sodium and potassium which acts as the perfect electrolyte for the treatment of diarrhea. Taking coconut water in excessive units help to reduce diarrhea. There is no procedure for drinking coconut water. Take a coconut and consume its water. Drink around 2-3 glasses of coconut water daily. But do not consume it much as it can lead to high blood pressure.

Peppermint Oils

Peppermint oils contain menthol based cyclic monoterpene that is antispasmodic. The peppermint oils also considered being anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial which helps to reduce diarrhea in the body. For treating diarrhea, these oils can be consumed along with tea or water. Take one cup of boiling water and add some dried peppermint leaves to it and leave it for about 15 minutes. Cool it, then strain the leaves and have it as tea. If you take the oils in form of capsules, then take around 1 to 2 capsules in a day. If you are drinking it in the form of tea, have 5 cups of tea between meals. 

Jeera

Drinking Jeera water can help to give relief from diarrhea. Cumin has anti-bacteria and anti-diarrheal properties. The phytochemicals present in cumin reveals the presence of tannins, alkaloids, terpenes which are responsible for the reduction of diarrhea. Cumin can be taken by adding jeera powder in water. Add one teaspoon of jeera powder in boiling water. Keep it like that for about 10 minutes. Once it cools down, drain the powder and have it. It is advised to just take 1 glass of jeera water daily. 

Green Bananas

Bananas are rich in fibers, potassium, complex carbohydrates, Vitamin C, and Vitamin B6. The pectin fiber present in bananas helps to absorb excess water present in the intestines which firm up stool. The pectin also helps in the production of small bowels and acts as a barrier which does not allow stool to drop. Boil unripe bananas for about 10 minutes. Remove the skin and mash them. Add salt and oil to it. Have it with soft cooked rice. Eat 200 gm of bananas every day to get effective results. The bananas should be fresh and free from bacteria.

Ginger

Ginger warms up the digestive system and provides smooth digestion. It prevents harmful bacteria from causing loose motions and prevents excess fluids from there in the intestines. Ginger can be consumed as a tea, fresh ginger, or grates of it. Add 3 tablespoons of fresh ginger in boiling water. Leave it for some time. You can add 1 teaspoon of honey and lemon to make it taste good. You can also use ginger tea bags in boiling water. It is advised to take 4 gm of ginger daily.

BRAT diet

BRAT means rice, banana, apple sauce, and toast. These are foods that can blend easily and reduce stomach illness and diarrhea. These foods are rich in starch and low in fiber. Banana with rice is the best combination when it comes to reducing diarrhea. When it is topped with applesauce and toast, it helps to suffice diarrhea. Boil unripe bananas and keep them for about 10 minutes. Mash it and have it with soft rice. Make a bread toast and add applesauce and have it with banana and rice meal.
